Description

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism seeks applications from outstanding mid-career journalists who wish to spend up to six months at Oxford University as part of our Journalism Fellowship Programme. 

The successful applicant must have: 

  • At least five years' experience as a journalist in any medium, 
  • Current employment as a journalist (in a newsroom, or as a freelance journalist) and a plan to return to journalism after the fellowship, 
  • Good spoken English (capable of participating in seminar discussions and debates with ease) and fair written English. 

No other restrictions apply.

While in Oxford, our fellows have the opportunity to:

  • Access the full resources of the univesrity, including membership of Green Templeton College.
  • Take part in a 10-week programme of activities each term, alongside other talented journalists from around the world.
  • Work on a project for the improvement of journalism, which will be edited, published and promoted by the Reuters Institute.
  • Fortnightly 1:1 mentorship to ensure you are connected to the full resources and expertise of Oxford. 

To apply for the fellowship, you must prepare:

  • A one-page project proposal: tell us about a problem you see in journalism, or a missed opportunity for its enhancement. Explain how you will use your time at the institute, and when you return home with your published project, to address the gap. (Accepted format: PDF)
  • A one-page motivation letter: tell us about who you are, and why you are the right person to take on this project.
  • A two-page CV: a curriculum vitae (or resume)
  • The email addresses of two people who have worked with you, are willing to serve as reference for you, and can speak to your character and readiness for this opportunity.
